The us military reported that their hypersonic weapons program is in the final stage. The end of testing of two prototypes of hypersonic air-jet missiles has been announced. However, this miracle weapon was tested not yet in free flight, but fixed to the bottom of the carrier aircraft.
The US Air force and the defense advanced research projects Agency (DARPA) have completed testing two versions of hypersonic weapons, reported on the DARPA website.
It is known that Lockheed Martin and Raytheon missiles with an air-jet engine were tested. The companies confirmed that individual rocket designs can reach and support flights at speeds exceeding five times the speed of sound.
DARPA notes that the first tests of missiles in free flight should take place this year. These tests will assess whether the weapon’s propulsion and thermal control systems can withstand hypersonic cruising speeds.
